If you've been a professional photographer for any amount of time, you've probably realized some things about image files:

• There are lots of them.
• They take up a lot of hard drive space.
• They can be hard to find when you need them. 

The points above especially ring true when you have thousands of pictures on your computer. Naming image files is one of the most important things you can do to keep things easy, but it's also one of the most overlooked. 

File naming allows us to retrace our steps, give others a breadcrumb trail to follow, and creates consistency in our catalog (and growing archive) of our work.
